Tour the Style-Ahead Higher East Facet Condominium of One Younger Household, The place English and Italian Fashion Reside in Concord

“It was a homecoming!” Paola Saracino Fendi recollects gleefully of her younger household’s transfer into this pre-war condominium on New York’s Higher East Facet. The senior advisor at Schwartzman& had lived in London for nearly a decade when she and her husband, Aram, made the decision to return to the town—even the neighborhood—the place she grew up. She was searching for one thing that felt acquainted, “old-school New York,” as she calls it, and when she first laid eyes on the condominium, she knew it was the one. “It jogged my memory of my childhood residence,” she remembers. “The structure, the moldings, the hearth; it felt like destiny.”

The place held a sure significance for Paola and Aram. It was their first residence collectively as newlyweds, for starters (they were married in Ibiza in 2021), and it’s the place they might welcome their son, Massimo. When it got here time to nominate the interiors, which Paola imagined as “heat, inviting, full of sunshine…with parts of London and Europe” (she had a pattern-wrapped David Hicks room and the Bloomsbury vibes at Charleston home on the thoughts), it was a no brainer to assign the job to their mates Charlotte Rey and Duncan Campbell, of the UK-based agency Campbell-Rey. The one downside? Nearly instantly after they purchased the condominium, the world went into pandemic lockdown.

Rey and Campbell made it work, conducting Zoom calls—many—and Facetiming with contractors as they put in picture-frame molding. Their intimate data of the couple guided them by way of the method—even when they didn’t see the condominium till two years in. They have been working with what New Yorkers name a “traditional six,” named for its typical prewar flooring plan which features a front room, eating room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and a maid’s room, plus bogs (often two). Fortunately, the tried and true association wanted little tweaking. Renovations have been comparatively minimal: They vamped up the entry with mirrors, added terrazzo flooring and a tiled backsplash within the kitchen, and enhanced the moldings with a customized bead. However most different transformations occurred with good quaint paint and wallpaper—and furnishings after all.

“How can we take what’s a reasonably typical structure and simply wake it up?” says Campbell of their self-prescribed transient. “The Higher East Facet could be a little…well mannered. We tried to maintain a few of that spirit whereas creating these little moments of shock. You realize, the squeeze of lime.” For them, that sprint of taste comes from mixing design types, intervals, and naturally, shade and sample, in sudden methods, creating an inside that feels as eclectic, worldwide, and complicated as its inhabitants.
